Aero Faculty, Orpen Park, Aztec West, Bristol
Description:
As part of the Colleges rationalisation programme there was a requirement for consolidation of the Motor Transport Faculty to the Parkway Campus and Aero to Orpen Park. The asset swap necessitated concurrent working and decantation of both the Motor Vehicle workshops and the Aero Faculty.
The existing motor vehicle workshops were converted to a hanger to house 2 existing aircraft. Additional adaptation was required to provide facilities for hand skills work shops, looming benching, Learning Resource Centre, Avionics laboratory and adaptation of classrooms.
Specialist removers were engaged to re-locate the two air craft, airframes, engines and specialist equipment from the Parkway site, and also from a site at Staverton Airport in Gloucester. A Temporary Building was also relocated from another site in Bristol and refurbished as a classroom.
Due to changes in the Client’s rationalisation strategy the facility was required to be provided on an accelerated programme for design, planning consent, procurement and construction.
The project was delivered within budget and importantly the facility was open in time for the commencement of the new term.
