At Wilkinson Cowan, we are proud of the ongoing work we are doing with National Museums Liverpool to enhance access for everyone. Our Access Consultancy services are designed to ensure that public spaces are accessible, not only to meet current standards but to create environments which can be enjoyed freely by all.
Having completed detailed access audits for the staff areas of the World Museum and the Walker Art Gallery, we were pleased to receive positive feedback from the team at National Museums Liverpool. The reports provided were thorough and met with approval, and we’re excited to have been invited back to expand the scope of our work.

Since mid-February, we’ve been working at the Museum of Liverpool, a key landmark in the city’s historic skyline. The museum is not only a well-loved attraction but also plays a crucial role in offering free educational experiences to the public. Access to education is central to the museum’s mission, and while much work has already been done in the past to improve accessibility, they are committed to continually enhancing the experience for all visitors.
The next phase of our work will focus on the public areas of the Museum of Liverpool, an important step in ensuring that every visitor, regardless of their individual needs, can fully engage with the museum’s offerings. By identifying potential barriers and providing practical recommendations, our reports will help National Museums Liverpool develop a comprehensive access strategy plan for the entire building.
For us, this work goes beyond just compliance. It’s about ensuring that everyone – whether a student, a parent, a child, or a staff member with a disability – can enjoy the museum with ease. We understand that access is vital for museums to serve as educational hubs for the community, and we’re excited to be part of this ongoing journey to improve inclusivity.
At Wilkinson Cowan, we are dedicated to supporting organisations in improving accessibility, ensuring that spaces are welcoming and usable for all. This work with National Museums Liverpool exemplifies our focus on creating spaces that foster inclusivity and learning for everyone.
This #DisabledAccessDay, we celebrate the progress that has been made and remain committed to helping organisations like National Museums Liverpool take further steps toward full accessibility for all.
